Privacy Policy
Footprint is a daily football guessing game. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how you can contact us about your data.
1. Who we are
“Footprint,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Footprint service.
The “Service” includes:
- the Footprint website at playfootprint.com; and
- the Footprint Discord Activity, which runs inside Discord voice channels.
For privacy questions, deletion requests, or user reports, contact us at:
2. Information we collect
Account data (when you sign in)
If you sign in to Footprint through a third-party identity provider (Google, Discord, X, or Twitch), we receive a minimal set of identifiers from that provider so we can recognize you on future visits, along with your game statistics and play history tagged to your Footprint account.
We do not retain the OAuth access token after the initial sign-in exchange.
Google user data (Google Sign-In)
If you choose to sign in with Google, Footprint uses Google OAuth with the openid and profile scopes only. We do not request access to your Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Drive, Google Calendar, your email address, or any other Google service or data.
Google user data we access. During sign-in, Footprint reads the following fields from Google's OpenID Connect userinfo endpoint:
- Google account identifier (the
subvalue) — a stable, opaque ID for your Google account. We store this so we can recognize you and link your game progress on future sign-ins. - Name (display name / first name) — used as your in-game display name. You can change this in Footprint later; it does not modify your Google profile.
- Profile picture URL — used to show your avatar in the game and, if you opt in, on the leaderboard.
How we use Google user data. We use these three fields solely to: create and authenticate your Footprint account; recognize you on return visits; display your name and avatar in the game interface; and attach your puzzle statistics and play history to your account. We do not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the game.
How we store Google user data. The Google account identifier, display name, and profile picture URL are stored in our account database (Cloudflare D1). We do not store your Google OAuth access token or refresh token after the initial sign-in exchange; the access token is used once to read the fields above and is then discarded.
How we share Google user data. We do not sell, rent, or share your Google user data with third parties, advertising networks, or data brokers. Your display name and avatar may be shown to other players on the public leaderboard only if you opt in to leaderboard visibility. We share data with infrastructure providers (such as Cloudflare) only as needed to host and operate the Service.
Limited Use disclosure. Footprint's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalized or non-personalized AI and/or machine learning models.
Deleting your Google data. You can disconnect Footprint from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To delete the Google account identifier, name, and avatar URL we have stored, email us at support@playfootprint.com and we will delete your Footprint account data.
Gameplay data
When you play on the website or in the Discord Activity, we collect a limited set of gameplay information needed to operate the game and calculate statistics. This includes things like the puzzles you've played, your results, and timestamps. On the website we associate this with a random anonymous identifier stored in your browser; in the Discord Activity we associate it with your Discord user ID.
Technical request information
When you load or play Footprint, our infrastructure may receive general technical information about your request that helps us operate, debug, and improve the Service. We do not intentionally store your full IP address in our game database.
Analytics
We may use cookieless aggregated website analytics. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- operate the website and Discord Activity;
- save and restore game progress;
- calculate daily and historical puzzle statistics;
- display real-time game progress and leaderboard information inside a Discord voice channel;
- debug errors and improve game reliability;
- balance puzzle difficulty;
- detect abuse, spam, or misuse; and
- respond to support, privacy, or deletion requests.
We do not use Discord API Data to contact users outside Discord. We do not use Discord API Data to profile users, target advertising, determine eligibility for employment, housing, credit, insurance, or similar decisions, or train machine learning or AI models.
We do not use Google user data to profile users, target advertising, or to develop, improve, or train generalized or non-personalized AI and/or machine learning models.
4. Legal bases for processing
Where a legal basis is required, we process information based on one or more of the following:
- providing and operating the Service requested by you;
- our legitimate interests in maintaining, securing, debugging, and improving the Service;
- complying with legal obligations; and
- consent, where required by law.
5. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your information.
We do not share your information with advertising networks, data brokers, or third parties for targeted advertising.
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the Service, such as hosting, database, security, and infrastructure providers. These providers may only use the information to provide services to us.
Our game-event data is stored using Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare's privacy practices are described in Cloudflare's own privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Footprint, users, Discord, or others.
6. Discord
The Footprint Discord Activity operates on Discord and is subject to Discord's own terms, policies, and privacy practices.
Footprint is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by Discord unless expressly stated otherwise.
Your use of Discord is governed by Discord's own terms and privacy policy. Your use of Footprint is governed by this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
7. Data retention
We keep gameplay event data for as long as reasonably needed to operate the Service, maintain statistics, debug issues, detect abuse, and improve gameplay.
We may delete, aggregate, anonymize, or archive older event data at any time.
If you request deletion, we will delete matching records from our active database where reasonably possible, unless we need to keep limited information for legal, security, abuse-prevention, or operational reasons.
8. Your choices
Website
You can clear your browser's site data for playfootprint.com to remove the local browser identifier stored on your device. After that, future website plays may be treated as a new browser identity.
Account sign-out and deletion
If you signed in to Footprint, you can sign out at any time from the account menu in the website header. This clears the session from your browser without deleting your account data on the server.
You can request full deletion of your Footprint account by emailing the address below. After deletion, future sign-ins with the same provider will create a fresh, empty account.
Discord
You can also remove Footprint's authorization from your Discord account through Discord's user settings. This stops future use of the Activity, or future web sign-ins via Discord, from being associated with your Discord account through Footprint.
Deletion requests
You may request deletion by emailing:
Please include enough information for us to locate the relevant records, such as your browser identifier if available, your Discord user ID if applicable, or approximate dates of use. We may ask for additional information if needed to verify or process the request.
9. Children
Footprint is not directed to children under 13 years old or to anyone below the minimum age required to use online services in their country.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Footprint and provided information to us, contact us at support@playfootprint.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete the information.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information we process. However, no online service, database, or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of unauthorized access to user information, we will take appropriate steps and notify affected users or authorities where required by law.
11. International users
Footprint may be accessed from different countries. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as by posting a notice in the Footprint interface before or when the changes take effect.
